Common questions
Why does unlocking ask me to hold the button?
Because it opens a two-tonne vehicle. A single tap is far too easy to trigger by brushing a sleeve, so commands that grant physical access need a sustained hold or a turn of the Digital Crown — deliberate in a way a stray tap is not. Lock, climate and charging stay single-tap; none of them can let anyone in.
Why does Siri ask for Face ID before unlocking?
Voice is the one channel where the phone cannot tell who is speaking. Without that check, anyone holding your locked phone could open your car by talking to it.
Why is my car's status a few minutes old?
Asking Tesla for fresh data can wake the car, which drains the battery and costs money every time. TeslaWatch shows recent cached status and labels how old it is, then fetches live data when you ask. If it says “Asleep”, the car is sleeping on purpose and that is healthy.
Commands feel slow.
Through the cloud a command takes one to three seconds, and longer if the car is asleep and has to wake first. When your phone or watch is near the car, commands go over Bluetooth instead and land in about 300 ms. If it is consistently slow while you are standing next to the car, Bluetooth is not connecting — tell us, and include your car's model and year.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check three things in order: notifications are allowed for TeslaWatch in iOS Settings; the specific alert is switched on in Settings → Notifications; and you are signed in. Sentry alerts additionally need Sentry Mode enabled in the car.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com — we have no ability to issue one.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Delete Account. It erases your data and revokes TeslaWatch's access at Tesla, so the connection genuinely ends. The privacy policy lists exactly what is removed — and the one anonymous category that cannot be, with the reason.
Is my Tesla password stored?
No, and the app never sees it. Sign-in happens in Apple's own secure browser, which returns an access token without ever showing the app your credentials. That token is encrypted on the server.
Does it work without my iPhone nearby?
Yes for cloud commands, once set up. The initial sign-in has to happen on the iPhone — a watch is a poor place to type a password — and the watch receives what it needs from the phone afterwards.
Which vehicles are supported?
Any Tesla supported by the Fleet API. Bluetooth commands additionally need a vehicle supporting Tesla's vehicle-command protocol: Model 3 and Model Y, and 2021-onward Model S and Model X. Everything else falls back to the cloud path automatically.
Is this made by Tesla?
No. TeslaWatch is independent and is not endorsed by Tesla, Inc. It works through Tesla's official Fleet API using access you grant yourself. See Legal.
